Scouting For Food
Across the country in many Scouting councils and districts, thousands of troops and packs with millions of scouts involved collect tens of millions of pounds of food which is distributed to needy neighbors.
Food Collection
Pack 406 conducts annual neighborhood food collection as well as holding large Scouting For Food drives hosted by our community grocery stores! Now more than ever our community is in need of food and basic supplies.
How to Participate
Print out flyers. We’ve created a letter you can print at home. Make sure you fill in a day and time when you’ll be coming back to collect donations.
Distribute flyers to your neighbors. Go for a walk with your family to distribute flyers in your neighbors’ mailboxes. Share on social too!
Pick up food donations. On the day you chose, pick up your neighbors' food donations.
Drop off food donations. We will collect food during pack meetings. Just bring your collections then!
Food Collection Efforts
Neighborhood Bag Collection
Our Cub Scouts ask neighbors and friends to support Scouting for Food by providing bags of nonperishable donations and leave them by their front door for collection. Collected food is then brought to the Pack collection event.
Store Front Collection
Cub Scouts ask shoppers to support our food drive by picking up additional items as they shop. At the end of the collection, the pack collects all donated food to be dropped off at a local food bank.
Virtual Scouting for Food
Suffolk County Council is asking members of our communities to support Scouting for Food by making a donation to Island Harvest. Each dollar donated equals 2 pounds of food. Click here to donate.
